With the New Year approaching this is a great opportunity to reflect on an incredible year for our 800 orphans and vulnerable children in Kimilili.

2017 at a glance….

Rebranding: CBSM becomes School4Life!

Our successful journey continues with a new name, brand and image: School4Life! Please take some time to explore and share our new website: www.school4life.org

Our 2017 successes!

This year has been a record year: over 300’000 CHF collected in donations, a 50% growth from last year. This has been deployed for infrastructure projects like our new permanent home for our children home girls with electricity, running water, inside showers and toilets.

In addition, we have replaced the broken metal sheet walls on the first floor of the school building with permanent stone walling, creating a safe environment for our children to learn.

A football field sized piece of land has been purchased to allow our students enough room to stretch their legs during break time. And last but not least, our Special Needs School has been running successfully for over a year.

New Advisory Board

In order to better support our children, School4Life governance has been strengthened. Our board members Agnes, Astrid, Alex and Miriam are not only supported by a strong core team but also proud and honored to announce our newly established Advisory Board. Please meet: Silvia von Balmoos, Franziska von Weisenfluh, Jürg Frick, Dr. Ole Wiesinger and Guido Scherer. Find more on our team here.

For Graduating Students: New Leavers & Career Counseling Programme

We are very proud to announce that for the first time 40 Secondary School students are graduating this year. Driven by School4life’s vision to enable students to become valuable and integrated members of the community, the Leavers’ Program was initiated to assess potential options and funding for further education or employment for our school leavers.

In addition, a career counseling program will be established to support our Secondary School leavers during the last 3 years of education.

6 years anniversary party

In September, School4Life celebrated its 6th anniversary. 150 friends enjoyed the delicious food sponsored by St. Peter Restaurant and free drinks from Landolt Weine while learning about how School4Life continues to support the Kimilili community. Thanks to our generous sponsors we raised 15.000 CHF that will go towards the leavers’ programme. ASANTE SANA – Thanks for your constant support!

Volunteer work: 4 classrooms, leavers programme, trainings…

The local management loves the exchange with our volunteers, as “they learn from us and we learn from them”. This year our fantastic volunteers Karolina, Inma, Leonie, Alfred, Simon, Richard and Cathy enjoyed the local hospitality. In addition, our first PIECES volunteers Elsa, Oliver, Dominik, Nicolas volunteered through our newly established cooperation with St. Gallen University, finalizing the construction of 3 new classrooms. Two of our board members, Agnes (twice!) and Miriam also (re-) visited our kids.

Last but not least…..A big thank you to all of you!

All these “dreams-come-true” would not have been possible without the continuous support we are receiving from all of you.
